You could just go talk to them. You don't need the Minutemen to unlock any settlement. I tried talking to Holly and the others, but I still couldn't use the workbench. I can't get it to work either. I think the side quests in the Slog only give out rewards and not the workbench.

The reason you were having the problem in the first place is probably because your video card is below the minimum required for the game. Min requirement - Radeon HD 7870 2GB. You - Radeon HD 7700 Series 1GB. Lowering the resolution will get it to run (as you found out), but probably not very well.

Here recently though I've stopped getting Minuteman Radiant quests for no apparent reason. Neither Preston or Radio Freedom are giving me any more quests to do and it's slightly bothering me. No mods are used in my game so I can't think of why I would stop getting radiant quests. Same here. You can ignite the war 2 ways. It has to be done as a Minuteman though. either kill the proctor on the airship. or do a part of the main storyline, where the the Brotherhood and the Institute meet. Go with the institute ( before you betray them ), and you will automatically be an enenmy of the Brotherhood. #5.
